Sister Helen Owens Public Health Lectureship
The Sister Helen Owens Public Health Lectureship is named in honor of Sister Helen Owens, OSF, Vice President of Mission for Lourdes Health System, in recognition of her continued leadership and contributions towards public health for the community and beyond.
As Vice President of Mission, Sister Helen (pictured, right) is responsible for promoting the mission, vision and values throughout the organization. She joined Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in 1979 as the Director of Community Health Education and was named Vice President of Mission in 1986. During her time with Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Sister Helen has served as a visionary leader for not only the Medical Center, but also the greater Camden community. In 1979, she envisioned and opened a hospital-based Wellness Center. The Lourdes Wellness Center was the first hospital in southern New Jersey to develop and offer a wellness program to its employees and the community. In 1980, Sister Helen created The Bridge, a teen lifestyle enrichment and prevention program. For more than 29 years the Lourdes Wellness Center and The Bridge have been serving the community and carrying out the mission of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center.
